Tequila Sunrise

Danny and I went to this awesome mexican restaurant in Queens called “Tequila Sunrise.” He’s been there with his dad and absolutely loved it! As soon as we walked in, there was such an authentic feel to it. There were decorations all over with this cool looking mayan glass glowing structure (I think that’s what made some of the pictures look kind of greenish).

For our appetizer, we ordered guacamole. They made it right in front of us! The cook used 1 avocado, tomatoes, and red onion. We also asked for it be mildly spicy (it was actually really spicy!). Other than my mouth burning at times, the guacamole was absolutely fresh and delicious! Last time, Danny and his dad made a mistake by ordering 2 orders of guacamole. 1 order of guacamole was more than enough but also cost over $30 (market price). But it’s a little absurd because 1 avocado costs no more than $3, tomatoes, and red onions are cheap. The guacamole is yummy but not worth almost 2 entrees!

Danny ordered the Tequila combo. It came with a beef chimichanga, chicken ensalada and cheese quesadilla. This is what Danny ordered last time and just loved it before, so he had to order it again! I tried some of his meal and it was pretty darn good! I love chimichangas (especially beef ones!). It was crunchy and had so much flavor! The chicken ensalada was yummy too! It had tons of veggies and cheese and the chicken was super moist. The cheese quesadilla was good as well but was just like any ordinary cheese quesadilla.

I ordered the Combinacion. It came with a chicken ensalada ranchera, beef burrito and crispy ground beef taco. I wish I didn’t order something crunchy (the taco) because the juice on the plate just made the hard shell taco soggy but other than that, it was still yummy! The chicken ensalada ranchera was yummy and crunchy. The beef burrito was like any other burrito but still good.

If you’re looking for some good mexican food in Queens, check out Tequila Sunrise. The experience is great and the food is yummy! Also, they have a mariachi band that plays tableside!

Blockheads

My best girl friends and I try to get together at least once a month (it’s hard to because we’re all busy and it’s hard to find 1 day that we’re all available). After a few months of not seeing each other, we finally found a day in May to grab dinner and drinks. We decided on Blockheads (1 of my girlfriends heard a lot of great things about this Mexican restaurant).

We get there around 6 pm. The restaurant is somewhat small in the front but there were more tables in the back. We sat in the back on these chairs that kind of reminded me of metal lawn chairs. Our waiter was pretty funny (he joked about the food and annoying customers). He also brought out these addicting chips and salsa! The salsa was mildly spicy and the chips were lightly salted.

The 1st thing we ordered were drinks! Margaritas were pretty cheap ($4 for a small, $7 for a large, and $1 extra for flavors). My girlfriends ordered 2 small margaritas, 1 on the rocks and the other frozen strawberry. I ordered a large frozen peach margarita. The margaritas were so good! I tried not to drink too much because I had to watch my figure (this was right before I flew in for LL Bean).

For our entrees, 1 of my girlfriends ordered a vegetarian burrito (had lots of rice, black beans, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, and carrots) and my other friend ordered a bbq chicken burrito. I ordered a shredded beef soft taco and salad. Though I love meat, I tried the veggie burrito and it was actually very moist and had lots of flavor. The bbq chicken burrito on the other hand, was moist as well but was way too spicy. My taco was actually the best dish of the night. It was juicy and moist. My girlfriends tried it as well and loved it! The salad was a typical house salad but the dressing was zesty and a little spicy. After dinner, we stopped by the bar Turtle Bay for some more drinks. We had a good dinner, fun drinks, and a good time. What more can you ask for?
