Marie Espy is Adjunct Faculty and a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Pacifica in the MA Counseling Psychology Department.
She has been practicing as a therapist since 2012, graduating with her masters in counseling psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2014. She is currently a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in Santa Monica, CA, where she helps to foster healthy attachment relationships with her clients by using both art and time in nature as tools. Her published thesis, , discusses how modern advertising has confused the innate human capacity to use art and symbols to heal.
She studied at the , where she further increased her knowledge of art and symbolism.
Marie has been a therapist for 7 years, some of which include: in-patient treatment at , a Jewish inpatient rehabilitation center in Culver City where she practiced using a Jungian modality; , where she increased her knowledge of child development and symbolic play; Home-care and training with Spectrum Disorders; and Los Angeles pre-schools where she has been a play interventionist. She approaches therapy with a very real, humanistic, connection-infused perspective. She believes that this human-work we are here to do cannot be done without humility, humus (dirt), or humor. She has a deep connection to the earth; to paying attention to the things and moments that others have forgotten, refuse, and what is cast-away.
